    Suzuki AE50

    Hey there,

    I'm new here, just thought i'd check out the real biking world and network with people who actually know things. I've owned a pile of bargain-bin 50s, moonlighted on some even cheaper 250s, and currently ride a ratty supercub. I also (try to) repair old scooters on very rare occasions. I just dug up a late nineties Suzuki Ae50 (1999 maybe?) from deep under my mate's house where it had been sleeping peacefully for the last five years. I got it running this morning, but it blows a lot of smoke (like Eyjafjallajökull a lot) and I've never really worked on a two-stroke before so if anyone has any knowledge about why it would be smoking so much, and how to stop it that would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey man, I'm new too.

    Had my learners for a few months and bought myself a 2010 Keeway Cruiser.
    Sounds like you've got a bit more experience than I do though, when it comes to the mechanical side of things.

    You need to message RDJase he has LC's and LOVES 2 strokes he would most likely know whatever you need to know about 2-strokes.

    Hi Jake

    I have owned several two strokes and suggest firstly you replace the spark plug, then check the oiler which has mating marks which will align at ??idle / full throttle. Then go for a long ride as even the muffler can be oil clogged and smoke alot.

    Keep your eye on the gearbox oil level too - two strokes that are left for long periods can develop hardened crankshaft seals. The gearbox oil can be sucked into the combustion chamber and burned. Hence excessive smokiness and the potential for killing the gearbox as that oil gets eaten up.

    Cheers guys, turns out riding it fixes it... My kinda bike I reckon. Still too oily, but all the oil is burning now. might have to check out the oiler someday when I can find a screwdriver with a small enough handle to squeeze under the frame (dumb design and I really cannot be bothered dropping the engine).
