DR250 - GN250 Electrics conversion, 2 phase -> 3 phase, issues?

After trying 3 different companies to rewind 3 different stators I've given up on this route of solving my issues. What I do want to do is convert my 1988 DR250 to GN250 electrics. Squiggles has the parts and I have the multimeter/test lamp

Is there any reason why I would not be able to convert my bike from 2 phase to 3 phase?

I plan to swap everything over, loom, coil, CDI, and stator to GN250 parts.

you dont need the whole loom, you just need, the 3 phase gear,
eg stator reg/rec, you shouldnt even need the cdi,
you may or may not need the pick up depending on wether your dr uses the 1 wire or 2 wire setup,

what you could also do is just use the gn stator but just use 2 phases and have a spare phase for when 1 burns out,
keeping the whole electrical system the same, except for the stator

Well assume I know nothing about bike electrics!

I don't know whether it's one wire or two wire system, there are two 'plugs' that come off the DR stator, I assume one is to do with the lighting coil.

By pick up, do you mean trigger switch on the stator?

Yes I am going to use a battery as it's a road bike.

I like the sound of keeping everything apart from the stator so the spare phase plan sounds like me?! I can take photos etc. if they will be useful as I'm afraid I may not be!

Yes, the system is really simple.

I think you will loose a lot of capacity doing that, especially if it's an isolated stator.

If the stator will bolt right in, simply fit stator, plug into reg/rect, and wire it to the battery and frame ground. Easy peasy.

Never as simple as it should be! The stator cover is slightly different between the DR250 and GN250, so the trigger switch won't bolt in. Gutting as I now have 4 DR250 ones...
