I was running the Castrol semi-synthetic and changed last time to Motul 5100 (also semi) - there was a very noticeable improvement in the gearbox shifting using the Motul. In my specific bike anyway, and several others have commented on the same using Motul 5100 in Hondas.

Consequently I have no future interest in Castrol and I have even stopped using their oil in my cars! That will teach them!

I was one of the "others".......

I was really impressed with Motul in my Hornet. Really made a difference. I did'nt think it would or that i'd notice but I truely did. Good stuff and not too pricey either.

Valve clearence's on gsxr1000's stay within spec for long periods( longer than the recommended checks) (CBR's too).Get them checked if you want for piece of mind, otherwise just spend the dosh on a quality oil.My pick has been Mobil racing 4t or maxima extra 4t, both around the $100 mark for 4ltrs.Choose a cheaper brand like motul 5100 if you want, but its been proven not to do gearbox's anygood, ( to me anyway) I ran 5100 in my vfr up till 60,000k, the gearbox packed a sad, when it was stripped down I was horrified at the amount of wear on the gears, and no nothing broke, it just got real noisey (Im no oil scientist but after this happened I stopped using it) .If you dont ride hard it will be fine though I suspect.Just my experience, but I stick to mobil or maxima now.Make your own mind up though.I change the oil and filter at 3000km intervals, which a lot of people will point out its only 1/4 of the oils life, yes but that is the maxium life as told my the manufacturer. If you wait till 10,000ks, those metal particles have been floating around your engine for a long time.

As for castrol, most know they won the right to call some of their oil "synthetic", which is why I never use it in any bikes or cars now.

    Hmmm,
I used to run 5100 in the CBR. Thought it was the Ducks nuts.
Then I got given some Q8 to try. Well, all I will say is the many false neutrals that I used to find have now gone!

To be fair, it may be my riding has tamed down a little, so not really a true test....

Piffff!!!!!!! Feel free to post up any documented information to verify this - I extensively searched many oil brands on the web and never found one comment to support the above.

Now we just need someone to chip in with a comment regarding mobil and Harley bearings ................

    Got to agree with this....
I can't say that it was Motul causing the fasle neutrals at all.... As for damage, well, never had the box apart to look.
Then there is the whole issue of, "is this damage different to normal?" and " What is normal?"....

Right. The post gave the impression that Motul was no good, rather than just referring to 5100.
