Transfer speed is often affected by latency. Lower your latency and transfer speed improves. Less time spent waiting for TCP acknlowedgements.
You can tune a TCP stack around it, but up until Windows 7 the default Microsoft settings were not very good for high latency circuits (such as interleaved asymetric ADSL).

Fix a computer and it'll break tomorrow.
Teach its owner to fix it and it'll break in some way you've never seen before.
Nope full bars. Everthing i've ever read and been told has stated that wireless is much slower than direct connection........plus I have a basic as modem/router. (Belkin "G"). Obviously i'm no computer expert but I use it enough to get by ok.......
Just re-read what you've written, are you referring to wireless as in a wireless go anywhere internet, or wireless from my modem? (you know what I mean)

Referring to wireless from your router/modem. If you're running a G network, that's 54 mbps peak theoretical bandwidth (you won't actually achieve this in the real world, but still). Wired ethernet tends to come in 100 mbps or 1 gbps. So yes, wireless is slower than wired, which you'll notice if you're shifting large files across a home network. On the other hand, your connection has a peak theoretical speed of 24 mbps (on ADSL2+). You almost definitely won't achieve this in the real world.
So if you're getting a good signal from your router, your online speed tests should be returning the same results whether on your laptop or a PC connected straight to the router.
Think of it this way: your internet connection is a Hyosung 250, wireless is an empty motorway, and wired is an empty autobahn. One might have more room, but neither will limit the Hyosung![]()
I have a big cock so I'm still on dial-up.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
