    BFTP HB Rally April 23/24/25

So no-one is going to write this up. Ok. I am No-one so I'll make a start.

Picked up Ducky on Wednesday afternoon and this was to be his first big 'outting' . Ducky is a dayglo yellow 2005 500cc Piaggio hyperscoot. Bought as my geriatric zeds need work and i dont quite have time to do the deed.

Left Welly on Friday 24 in the fine company of a VF1000 ridden by hmmmnz. After making an emergency stop for fuel at Caltex 'takas ( bugger though there was more in it than that ) Off we went. Usual ride over the 'takas. No idjuts that I saw. Better on the corners than i would have thought, waaaaaay better than the zed.

Out the other side and we settle in to getting to know each others riding style. Quite a difference between an X9 and a VF1000. Stopped at Ekathuna for yet more fuel, got told to shut up by hmmmnz once we compared the cost of fuelling.

Onward to Paihiatua where we met up with the irreplacable Dadpole. Standing on a corner, standing out in his retro leathers. Time for a coffee and a rest and a chat. We hadnt met each other before so this took a bit of time.

Fully caffeinated and off we went. Happy to say that we settled well into the rythm of riding.

Ducky pootles along nicely at 120k with bursts up to 140 on occasion. Feels remarkably stable for what is really a scooter. Lets me down on the twisty groups of corners, but otherwise brilliant. Tell you what, it's REALLY funny to watch people reactions when a scooter passes them at 140k.

We were heading for a spot slightly out of Hastings. Never having been that way, I was relying on the GPS on the bigger bikes to get us there. SUre enough the camp was where it ought to have been.

Introductions all around. And Ducky got far too much attention. It was the electric mainstand that got a few envious looks.

Had tea that night at a neat local food place. Chook and Filly. nice food and good company.

Next day went riding with some of the Classic CLub members. Got no idea where the heck we went. But someone will post it. If you've never been riding over that way- DO IT. Gorgeous roads, beautiful scenery, hot...really hot. That was the only complaint from Ratti. Too darn hot for me.

Had a few beers and a chat with the lovely folk at the CLassic bike Club. Several bikes there worth drooling over.

Then back to camp for shower and up the hill for tea and refreshments...lots of refreshments.

slow start to Sunday. a few of us attended the ANZAC day ceremony. SOrry ladies, but I and one other woman disgraced ourselves totally by snivelling through the wreath laying ceremony and the Last Post. It was the Moth that was flying overhead during the Last Post that really finished me off.

BAck to Dooly's for a huge feed of the leftovers from the night before. then hit the road for a slow pootle home.

Many thanks to the HB crew who organised a fabulous weekend. Looking forward to the next one.

The ride on Saturday was awesome eh?
Porangahau was our destination...gravel free roads, unless you got caught out by the lack of a corner marker???
Weather was awesome, typical HB in autumn. We are blessed,
The company was what made it though, but I am not sure about the BFTP Belly Dancing Girls

My first BFTP rally, I'll be back for another one!

    Envious looks, where they?
I seem to recall they were more of the "WTF is that?" variety...
Mind you, similar looks probably abounded at the first electric legs.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
