cowboyz and Mrs C holiday weekend on the bike - the good bits...

well, thanks to all the support for those who know the outcome but before that we were having a magic weekend. So this is my ride report for Fri to lunchtime sun (its been covered what happened after that!)

    Anyhow..,
So Fri forcast was for showers. We dont care. Havent been away 2 up for a long time and keen to get out on the bike. Spent all week prepping the bike ready for the trip and keen to go. Then Thurs night BR kindly offered a chance to test out the BT Interphones he has recently purchased so we really needed to hook up and collect these. Lunchtime Fri was the only chance so we headed to BRs place andwaited for him to come home for lunch. Spent a whole 15 mins setting up the mounts and headsets in the helmets and then we were off. Instantly it become apparent how much value the interphones added to the trip being able to chat away to each other as the scenery went past. I expected to be riding on wet roads but predicted that we would miss all the weather. Vinegar hill went by real quick and had an awesome time over it. As soon as we hit the main road it started to rain. That was alright... it couldnt possibly last long. Mother nature has a reall bad sense of humour but again, having the ability to talk as we rode passed the time as we rode through the rain to Taihape for a hot chocy and a smoke.
Carried on up Desert road where carb icing was introduced to the trip. Damn it got cold so we had a bit of a moan to each other and put our heads down and got away from the traffic to make good time past the mountain. By the time we got to Turangi we were soaking wet where we met a guy and his wife, both on HDs. The guy had huge ape hangers and didnt look like he was having muh fun at all so I couldnt pass up the oppourtunity to take the piss out of him. We jest for a bit, nice guy really.. before he lead us round the lake to show us how HD can handle just as well as sportsbikes. (ahem... he did really well tbh and we werent in a hurry)
real keen to get to the Huka Falls resort and have a nice hot shower to warm up.
The resort itself was ok. Not really impressed but it was warm and dry and after 3 hours in the rain thats pretty much all we were looking for. Had an awesome dinner at the resorts resturant. One of the best steaks I ever had! and then it was relax for the evening.

sat morning we got up to a completely clear sky and an awesome sunrise. Thought we might as well check out the waterfall and then head to Waireki for breaky.
The falls were covered in fog and visibility was so bad I missed the 40 foot sign that says 'Huka Falls this way' Again.. Interphones come in handy as my trusty pillion advised of my missed turnoff.
The waterfall was fun. It was really mistic and surreal really. so took some pics and then headed for breaky.
Disappointed to find truckstop had been replaced with a wild bean and we were really looking forward to bacono and eggs so we did a loop of the carpark and headed back to Taupo to find a cafe. Found a good one too and enjoyed a hearty breaky while looking through some advertising for touristy things. Found a horse trek thing which SOUNDED like a good idea. So we headed round Taupo.. Had a crack at the hole in one challenge which I kept hitting the island but couldnt hit the hole. So close yet so far.

Found a lost Yod wandering round the streets and had a chat for a bit before heading to the horses!

One horsepower my arse! Damn! I just about got thrown off like about 400 times! A heap of fun but damn I was sore!
So back to relax mode for the arvo before hitting the town. Again, super meal at JJ on tap. Found a bar with a heap of bikers in it and happen to chance across the same guy from the day before. Had a chat and apparently we made an impression cause his mates already knew who we were. Ummmmm. Bit disturbing!
Good night though.. Planned to catch up with the Yod but it didnt happen so we headed back for other things and woke sun morning with the forgotten highway right in my mind!
Checked out early andheaded into more fog (I didnt think we were in the Waikato) but worked our way over western bay road and down western access. We could smell the bcon in Taumaranui, the bke felt fantastic and in the places the fog lifted the roads were dry and no police around so gave opportunity for some woohoo! Stunning trip over SH41 with the fog in the gullies and the hills sticking up out the top and then just clear skies forever! Saw all 3 mountains clear as and it was awesome! Batteries were flat in camera so no picsof that so carried on and parked up at flax cafe and waited for BR, Brian, Sonic and Mrs Sonic.

So yeah, thats the end of the good bits anyhow.

    pic in sig.

intercoms were so easy it wasnt even funny.

put mount on side of helmet.

    plug headset in.
    turn on
press 2 buttons on each unit to sync them and bingo.
that was it. never touched them again
    they just work!

$200 off here.. ill find the link somewhere later on

I reckon we ran into the same Harley guy on the way back. He had big ape hangers and his missus was on another hog? Had a patch on his jacket - warriors? We saw them in Waiouru when we were gassing up - he came over and chatted to Brian (and to check out some real twins...).
