Female vs male accident and fatality statistics

A quick scratch around found this pdf factsheet

    http://www.transport.govt.nz/researc...-Factsheet.pdf

young men were the largest group to die to our roads

after 35years of age, female drivers die more that male drivers per km travelled (chart on page 1), so if women and men drove the same distance's, the women drivers over 35 years of age are more likely to die

male motorcyclists were the highest group to die

female motorcyclists were the lowest group to die

some better stats would be good if anyone has any

Can't remember where I read it but I think there was a report about females being involved in many more low speed incidents, eg hitting a stationary object, vs men who normally have higher speed incidents. The fact that a lot of low speed incidents don't get reported as there is sometimes no personal injury or major damage done means it's worse than the report found. Hopefully cage manufacturers will slowly start putting front and rear parking sensors in all cars!

So if I'm a female rider but over the age of 35 am I still on the "good" side?

That is encouraging for me as a woman who rides, but not so encouraging for me as a driver who is in the "after 35" bracket.

Hmmmm, I think this just means I'll opt for riding more, taking the car less......

But seriously, stats are good in lots of ways, but shouldn't give us a false sense of accomplishment or dread simply because we fit into one or t'other categories. I'll still be a vigilant defensive motorist whether on 2 wheels or 4.

Older drivers (over 79) are MASSIVELY over-represented. NZTA continue to fashion their own blunt tool to bludgeon numerically obvious but statistically incorrect "facts" into a stick to beat the public with. I like to see the brief for the report.

    Those poor females.

Sorry Katman you got it wrong again.

"You" have only got one cock to measure all others by, "they" can have as many as they like!

Haha.......No worries about behaving like a dick though that could be a real bitch at times.

What I'm alluding too is that as much as chivalry is to be commended, if a fairly large proportion of female drivers are having accidents, and/or possible being over represented as cagers that kill bikers....that this needs to be highlighted for everyones benefit to improve the situation, rather than excusing poor behavior on the road.

Some recent group fatalities and high profile cases re Tamaki Drive cyclists, are showing up a driver demographic that seems to receive little attention from accident prevention media, but ends up as sensational news, re japanese woman driver with the pensioner stuck in the windscreen....

When you have nearly been killed by a cager, hassling women drivers doesnt make you a misogenist. And if you havnt, it shouldnt make any difference.

I'm not wishing to put women back in the kitchen, but remedy the accident and fatality stats

95% of motor-vehicle deaths are road users.
    65% of women crash.
So using these figures you could say that 62% of women who drive and crash also die.
    .....
drawing conclusions from stats is the masturbation of 2000's.
Statistics are not facts. Facts are 100% proof.
'were' and 'would' are not facts - they are theories.
