I have a couple of ideas....Move prisons offshore. I have seen several Indonesian prisons, and I suggest they can do way better than 90K per head per year. Inmates have orange overalls with "Detention" on the back and front. Some prisoners I saw were employed sweeping the motorways...the motorway outside the military base I was at was 16 lanes...8 each way!!

I was marshalling on turn 1 at Hampton Downs when I saw an ambulance go blazing past. I thought the prisoners are stabbing each other again. Let them bleed ..... doh.

Maybe instead of segregating them, they should put one member each from a rival gang in a double bunk cell. Encourage them to work their differences out and all get along.

What about making them sweep the motorway in black overalls at night......... Sorry, thats not very pc, pet stroking, tree hugging, mung bean eating govt officials insist on giving criminals rights.... in usa, prisoners have only the basic human rights, all other rights they gave up when they decided to break the law and fight societies values.
Should be the same here, prisoners should have no rights beyond existance and basic nutrition. They are in prison, steel bars, concrete walls and minimal contact with normal life.
In usa, the first sentence is lenient to the crime, second offence is harsher with longer sentence, if prisoner hasn't learned by 3rd offence thats it....... you locked up for long time.
Some prisons over there run at costs of $10 per inmate per day. Some are quite profitable with inmates earning revenue to pay for their incarceration.
I like that, make em work to pay for their sentence. Problem here is, inmates take jobs from prospective local communities so the communities get upset when corrections steal there contracts, and pay no labour/ or less labour .
Private prisons, I'm not convinced they are a smart idea with current legislation, if they changed the political pc view and allowed prisoners to treated like prisoners, maybe I think we would see some change.
I do think th ministers desire change, and to make a difference. I look forward to seeing it.

The British tried that a while ago didn't they? some rock called Austrailia I believe... turns out it was just an advance raiding party...

they just take shortcuts and sometimes slay prison officers to boost their bling factor... thinking like that should be removed from society permanently and forcefully... prison is meant to be a deterrent, not a finishing school
