Have you seen one of these?

Coconut Crab (Birgus latro) is the largest terrestrial arthropod in the world, weighing upto 18kg and growing to a metre in length. It is known for its ability to crack coconuts with its strong pincers in order to eat the contents.

It is sometimes called the robber crab because some Coconut Crabs are rumored to steal shiny items such as pots and silverware from houses and tents.

The second photo gives you a good idea of how large these crabs are - a coconut crab is seeking food from a black trashcan.

    Faaaaaark!

According to the original post, they even steal from the blacks' trashcans.

a coconut crab is seeking food from a black trashcan.
And just because they're from Vanuatu, big, and robs/steals, to call them "coconut" is still racist I think.

I just got back from Fiji and I did get to see a Coconut Crab.

Not as big as these but pretty damn big though.

Fijian's fight each other for the right to take it home (for dinner).

There is a restaurant in Rarotonga that has one as a pet. They walk it out to the customers on a string.

They will carry a coconut up the tree and drop it multiple times until it breaks open. Crafty buggers!
