    Inner city Chch cafe/restaurant recommendations?

Myself and Mrs Jackal are coming to Christchurch this Saturday. Main reason is to meet up with and take the boys out for a birthday lunch. We want to park up inner city and do the motorbike shops. (Mrs Jackal looking at learning to ride and will need a learners bike) We are looking for a decent cafe/restaurant in the inner city that does good lunch meals without being too expensive. When I say boys they are both adults so not looking at McDonalds. Anyone got any ideas?

My pick is the Mediterranean Food Warehouse. Figure round the $25/head mark for lunch: flatbreads, pizza pasta, italian wine and desserts and coffee.

you will also be able to get your grocery items sorted. You'll need some Lambrusco, some De Cecco pasta, and cheeses and smallgoods. If you get there early enough the bread is fantastic too.

Or you could do the Crumpet Club. Philip Kraal's place. also very good.

The food and coffee at Ballantynes is excellent, reasonably priced, and the service good. Not snobby at all. Try the coconut rough if they have any.

The Victoria Street cafe at the Crowne Plaza is worthwhile too.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Closest to the bike shops probably Crumpet Club, easiest to get to probably Med Food warehouse.

If you don't mind wandering a few blocks north from motorcycle central, bohemian on oxford tce is good for lunch.

The giant muffins at the victoria street cafe at the crowne plaza are good.

Right over the road from Rolling Thunder you've got Lonestar and on Antigua but further up Manchester you've Winnie Bagoes (really nice spicey lamb pizza) and it's a nice place to eat too.

No idea what you've in mind and I've no knowledge of posh ChCh restaurants. These two places offer good food, plenty of it and at a reasonable price.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I have taken note of them and will try them all on future visits to your fair city. We chose the Cafe in Ballentynes to meet the boys which was central for all of us and easy to find. Trouble was so did the rest of the population of Christchurch and the Governer General, his Aid and body guards! There was not even a single spare seat let along a table for 4. So boring old us ended up at Robert Harris in the food court across from Ballentynes. On the bike front found a wee GN125 in very good condition for $1500. Looks like a great bike for Mrs Jackal to learn on. Thanks again..........Cheers
