While I could see the point that the teacher was making, he did tend to go on a bit (ya reckon?) and didn't seem to understand the point of letting someone else have their say. I agree too with you that, if you take this to a logical conclusion, we're not going to be allowed to tease anyone about anything at all. I mean, what about freckles? I remember being teased about my flyspots when I was at school; what about big booties? I also remember being teased about my trunk (btw, which I'm now very proud of - if ya've got it, flaunt it!!)
Teasing is about learning resilience, not allowing others to rule/ruin your life. Of course serious harassment and bullying is not good, but I believe there is definitely a difference between cruelty and light-hearted teasing. If that guy had his way our children would grow up never having an unkind thing said about them.
Although if you translated it to "hug a fattie day" I somehow think there would be an outcry. Some would think it was hilarious (large people included, I'm talking about) but others would be calling for a lynch mob. Hmmmm. Food for thought.
