Golf Balls that is...
Wondering if there are any geniuses; academics (in physics), or professional golfers out there?
The question:
Which travel’s further; a hot golf ball, or a cold golf ball?
The argument:
My friend states his golf balls go further when they are warm, to the point he wraps them in a heater between holes. He states he gets more drive from the softer squishy dynamics of the ball.
I disagree as I believe a cold hard ball has more rigidity, therefore more energy, power and a straighter trajectory.
My theory:
With a soft ball, power is lost when the two objects connect, as the soft ball would absorb the impact of the hard object before take off, as well as affecting its trajectory in flight. Where as, with the hard ball the force on the smaller object would provide more energy and make it travel faster and straighter in flight.
So who's right?
Things that keep you awake at night..
P.S - Not looking at atmospheric pressures affecting flight, just the drive and trajectory in normal conditions.
