Holden remote key shells

Now also owning a Holden i was in horror when my key remote died as 1 of the buttons wore out and couldnt unlock the car , so the next best thing was to unlock it manually .
Big mistake as it set off the alarm making my key shell useless , i ring holden to find out the problem and was told i needed a new shell and key that had to be reprogrammed at over $300 .
Then i came across these and got some to try and bingo they work .

I was looking at those silicone buttons ex Australia as our keyfobs also have the buttons worn through making it more difficult to lock and unlock the car.

You can get them replaced a bit cheaper than $300 but still s shit load of money.

Are you blonde too? When that happened to me I managed to set the alarm off not once, but twice when the buttons refused to work on my key. Got laughed at big time by a bunch of cool kids from the local high school too

Mister Minit can replace Holden keys (up to VZ, I'm told) - for $109.

This is programmed to the car while you wait.

It takes less than an hour and two bourbons to reprogram the earlier transponder keys, it shouldn't cost three hundred dollars. A friend of mine had a key done for his VX SS up in Auckland last year by a mate of his. Took him about 35 min with lots of chatting and cutting the new key. I fail to remember who he was though.
The only reason it should cost that much would be repaying the machinery and the program, not cheap.

I would suspect so - I had a Holden, so I asked about them only. I know they do Ford ones too.

Find your nearest one and ask, I would think. Nothing to lose by asking and lots to save if they do.

Has anybody actually tried one of these as I notice they seem to lack the contact across from the key blade that completes the circuit to the ring surrounding the keyhole, which does the revolving electrical combination trick (so I'm told) ?

Im assuming there is a hole in the new shell for the security knob to protrude through, remember, this is just the outer shell, the internals (electronic part) is from your original key.

So as long as the electronics still work, and the battery is not shagged, it should just fit into the new casing, and hey presto!

These are just the shell , what you are doing is replacing the original internals which are in working condition to a new shell etc ...
This is cheaper than replacing the buttons with silicon ones , you get a whole new unit . These work as good as and for that price a bloody good bargin .

Nope. Mister Minit cut a brand new key, and program a new "body" of the key. For $109.90

Then you program it into the car (which takes about two minutes).

Hey presto. Bob's your uncle.

I got one done for my step-father's Commodore last weekend.

EDIT: Just looked at the link - those appear to be a new shell only. Ideal if you don't need an additional key.
