Streetfighter speedo question

How easy/difficult is it to retain the stock speedo unit when 'streetfightering' a sports bike? Can you just remove the unit from the nose fairing and attach it to the bike with appropriate brackets, or is it part of the fairing as an intergrated unit, and therefore needs to be replaced with an aftermarket unit?

Any help or advice appreciated.
