so 16 years ago when 600s were half the beasts they are now, you made a sideways move from a 70hp two stroke 250 to a 60hp fourstroke 400 and got bored....

    I'm not entirely surprised.

imho the 400 is a good bike before buying the rubber hungry 100hp 600cc that can flick you off from careless throttle. You can thrash them around coro/waitakere/hunua/sh22 twisties and actually use all of the bike without necessarily losing your licence

plus bikes like the vfr are in my experience fairly damn forgiving when it comes to rider error and/or adversely changing road conditions, which is good while you work up to the pace of a 600 (if that's what you're planning on doing)

If you bothered to finish reading my post you would've noticed that was one of the points I made, a 600 today is a far different machine than back then, so maybe the 400 would suit the OP.

I said RG250 not RGV250. It was an '85 model Gamma. There's a considerable difference between the performance of the RG and a full spec RGV at 70hp. The old Gamma had 45hp on a good day. Not exactly a sideways move from there to the ZXR400.

Yeah I don't really get that either. Unless he bullshitted and registered it as a 250 then as soon as they radio through his number plate hes screwed.

Dude - do what YOU want. It's a cool looking bike and would be bags of fun. Personally I'd rather have more cc but if we were all the same then there'd be no point

Might wanna get your full first. The $400 that getting caught will cost you would make a big difference if it was put towards a better bike in a years time.

Only $100 now. But it's been upped to 35 demerits.

Naw just get it. I've only owned a single learner legal bike. I used to ride 1000s all the time on my learners/restricted. At a guess, I've done over 20,000km during which I had one incident due to me riding like a twat, and a not at fault accident which totalled my GSXR1000. I still got paid out by insurance of at fault party even though I "didn't have the right licence", as it was immaterial to the crash.

In that time I've also been stopped by cops for "routine checks" and may have paid an infringement or two. But at the end of the day, owning a well maintained bigger bike that goes well beats paying 5G for a learner raped 250.

Don't let the haters tell you it can't be done.

Sure thing, but he already has a learner bike. You can also pick up a perfectly serviceable one for $3k which will then be worth $3k still when you go to sell it once you have your full. They lose less value than a 'well maintained bigger bike'.

Hater? pffft. I never said it couldn't be done. I was pulled over 3 times while on my learners/restricted, once my fault for an illegal right hand turn a couple of days after they put up the sign saying so, 2 on routine stops (only 1 where they checked my rego)... That and speeding fine and I would have lost my license and been a few hundred dollars worse off. That isn't being a hater, it's called having self-control.

I picked my FXR up for $2300. And it wasn't fucked. But it is only a 150...
