Down here its frost not fog you have to contend with.

Damn good reminder Frosty. Great thread. I am going to be commuting 140km a day and will no doubt come across this all the time.
On a related note, one place I always found dicey was the intersection of Kahikatea Flat Road and Pine Valley Road in Auckland North.... every time I rode up the hill the helmet fogged up, and so did the car as the air temperature changed. First time was in a car and lost all vision until the window went down and the wipers on. Best technique I found was to keep the helmet visor slightly open or the car window ajar and wipers on when going up hills in the country early morning.

Good post. Last winter I pulled up at a stop line junction, like you should, I was in a jeep with partially fogged ( in the corners) & water speckled windows. I looked, looked again & just as I started to roll forward spotted a cyclist wearing a bright pink jacket & using lights 3 feet away from crossing my path. Ugh, dickhead moment for me & a strong reminder to clean the windows properly & really look.

Alot of car drivers have no idea how to use their demisters and have the fan on recirculate (which makes the fogging worse) than on the fresh air setting.

There is that --but sunstrike was pretty bad so even a tiny bit fogged makes for zero visibility
