Manual camchain tensioners?

Just had a mechanical check done on a fireblade Im keen on purchasing, report was good but mechanic noted that a manual camchain tensioner has been fitted but all is good with it.He just noted that they can hide problems by over tensioning it but easily spotted by a wirring sound from camchain guides.Does this sound right?

Yes, he's quite right. Don't worry too much about the manuall CCT though - Honda CCT's suck balls, so you're better off with the manual one. If you're worried, when the bike has a major service, get the camchain slider(s) checked, along with the amount of camchain slack.

Cheers, there was no wirring sound from camchain, as he said all was good, there was a little bit of clutch rattle but nothing major, now to just scrape the cash together!

Manual cam chain tensioners are great as long as they are correctly adjusted. Too loose and the engine will rattle and maybe at worst jump a tooth ( probably on overrun ). Too tight and you will wear and possibly break your cam chain with serious consequences for your engine. You should adjust the manual tensioner with the top cover off the motor so that you can see and feel the tension in the chain. Unless for serious competition use by experienced engine builders, you are better off with a standard auto tensioner that is operating correctly.
