    90cc upgrade!

    Hey all,

For months I have been searching for more power, and I have come to a conclusion, I shall swap my 50cc Jialing/Honda engine for a 90cc Lifan engine, according to this forum: http://nopedguru.proboards.com/index...lay&thread=128
    they should swap relatively easily.

But due to lack of locating this motor (I emailed Lifan NZ, no reply yet) as yet I will attempt to put this carb and pod filter in
    http://shop.scootling.co.nz/index.ph...&productId=737
    &
    http://shop.scootling.co.nz/index.ph...&productId=371.

This is my master plan, any ideas, critiques or suggestions are welcomed.

Attached (fingers crossed) are photos of my current 50cc engine and stock carb.

Given the increased rego costs, I wonder how many people are planning to put 70cc+ kits in their 50cc scoots. I certainly wouldn't mind. Might have to get me bike license first though!
Watch out for tow ropes and quickly braking cars

then buy a pre 1970 car, and pay $97/yr rego.

I feel like a tit saying this, but it is all fun and games until a copper decides to do some "checks" on your "scooter"....then it gets expensive.

If there is nothing obvious on the outside of the engine, how would he know if its bigger?

I can think of a few bikes with bigger engines in and you cant tell at all.

Thats exactly what im thinking, and by all accounts it just bolts where the current engine is, so it cant be that much bigger.

Plus its not like I want it to go like 80, it just to safely keep up with traffic, especially up hills.

Remember the moped registration rules require that the bike:
    1. Has an engine no bigger than 50cc
    2. Has power outout of 2KW or less
    3. Has a max speed of 50kph

If you did happen to get clocked for speeding at all, then that's basically prooving that the bike doesn't meet the moped registration requirements

if riding a 90cc instead of a 50cc at 60km/h instead of 50km/h is the biggest crime of the year,we're all fucked.

The good thing about scoots is they don't attract the same attention bikes do, in saying that if its going down the motorway at 100+ the plates will get checked if it physically small.
If you do get pinged they can tell you to get it tested on a dyno at your expense. (it has happened).
From experience better acceleration and not having to conserve momentum is better to aim for then top speed, the tyres and brakes cut out fast unless you fit a bigger disk kit.

Still cheaper than a 50 mod
    $350 cylinder, piston, bearing, gaskets
    $260 pipe
$120 variater plus add some for roller weight swaps until its tuned
$130 carb + extras for new throttle cables and probably a manual choke + jet swaps
    $80 slightly larger rear tyre

    then it goes to extras

$250 programmable CDI (only for more speed)
$? gear up kit for the final drive
$? water coolled cylinder conversion and associated gubbins
$300 engine monitoring kit with higher range speedo

Sad isn't it..... distributors in NZ are just getting greedy.

Engines like the Japanese based clones (like the Lifan 90cc) are shockingly cheap from the manufacturer, about $USD 50, and freight is piss all when stuck in the container of scooters.

    worse case, $125 (NZ) landed.

Someone somewhere needs a new trailer for his kids Yacht.
