Well I only hung round for a single season, and I think Dave Cole moved classes. So that only really left RGV's behind to play.
You cant compare laptimes from one day to the next let alone 20 years apart,The bikes were new and the front runners at National level were by NO means on standard bikes,Having said that if you fit a small amount of kit parts to a standard 250,You will only see a small improvement and certainly not enough to warrant 3-4 seconds per lap,
Manfeild promotions when run by the Lesters had their own timing system,Dont know what it was or how it worked,But I do know it was good enough for the FIM too approve for WSBK.
Track condition,Anybody that raced through 79-88 will remember there was a huge lump in the middle of turn 2 that restricted the entry to splash therefore making the complete infeild a nightmare,The bump at the entry too Higgins has been there forever likewise the ruts through the Goodyear kink and at turn 1,So how was the track better back then.Ive been riding at Manfeild since it opened in 73 and I see nothing out there now that restricts my laptimes other than ME.
Who gives a rats arse who did the fastest laptime,One fast lap does not win a race as pointed out by Gaz
Perry best you put your money were your mouth is and get that RGV on the track, and beat that pesky KR1. Check with Eddie and he will confirm that the KR1 is at least 10 mph faster than the RGV.
KR1's are indeed faster than RGV's. And for the record Billy...only non std things on mine were a trick CDI, and I ran it on av gas pre mixed. Think you'll find the fast RGV's had a shitload more mods than that!
Yeah the close ratio boxes were a dead giveaway! They'd change three gears coming out of corners to my two! It was easy to tell who was on a rocket anyway. My KR1 ate stockers! Whilst he rode it really well...Dave Coles NSR was 'tuned' to perfection! As far as suspension goes...I didn't even adjust the spring preload. Didn't know what the hell I was doing so thought it better to leave it alone! Did my best to ride around any issues I had.
That and two strokes!
