The FXR150 rider may possibly be angry at themselves for investing $2000 on a piece of shit bike?
Nothing at all wrong with an FXR. Overpriced, yes. Piece of shit? No.

its not the fastest thing on the road, but thats what i learned to ride on, and it was so easy to do so. Wouldnt want to hang on to one for too long tho because they just dont have the speedOriginally Posted by campbellluke

2 years ago I had a Honda GL145. Single cylinder, air cooled. Only 5 speed. Only reved to 13K. Was 15 years old at the time. - I raced my friend with his FXR150 and the honda had way more speed. He refused to race again.Originally Posted by 250learna

That bike put him off motorcycles for good.
I just think if learners are wise with their money they are a lot better off.
I agree, the FXR is a good bike to learn on, but a total rip off money/value wise. I paid $3995 for the FXR in 2003 (It's a 2002 model). Pretty much the Sales Rep at Cyclespot in Takapuna RIPPED me off, he lied and pushed and pushed until I brought the bike he wanted me to buy and not the bike I really wanted (A CBR250). Cyclespot also tried to rip me off again with the repairs to the FXR after my partner dropped it. They had the bike for 3 weeks, and everytime I talked to them the quote for the fixing price went up by at least $400 a time. It was rediculous. They offered me $600 trade in, and $700 for a buy now price...
Red Baron offered me $1500 trade in, with a bunch of bargins added into the deal and they only took 2 weeks to fix the bike.
If your a newbie rider looking for a bike, shop at Red Baron, firstly they don't really stock a lot of 150's and secondly they care more about what YOU want and not how much money they are getting...
But anyway... End of Rant
The FXR is a good bike to learn on, but as mentioned above, after like 4 months there just isn't enough speed, and so a bigger bike is needed. And because of this you might as well start on a 250 and not have to worry about upgrading. And I'm speaking from experience.

i have a Green FXR150 Loving it too, i dnt have protective gear as its to dear, and im saving for my Wedding, ekk, but i know where you people are coming from, i was in my boss's 4x4 going to a course in wellington, and this rider on a Ninja, (droolll) we noticed was going in and out of traffic not signalling at all, weaving in and out, and its was raining, no wonder when i crashed no cager wanted to help, its people like'em that kills us, .... i ride without protective gear, but i have about 3 layers of clothes tho as its cold, but im really careful, i just act the car's are my mum and dad, and lets them go, in traffic jams, when riding go on the side, i hate that, i just sit and wait, what is the hurry? there is no point.................. just sit and shutup and wait.. =)
That's right... you don't need protective gear when you're covered in road rash... get a loan or borrow money from someone to buy some gear. It is really worth it, even if you ride safely (not every motorist will). I'd rather ride aggressively with full gear than nana along without gear... I've binned with and without gear, and with gear is a lot less unpleasant.
BTW, this is a bit of a resurrection for this thread, and while we're on the subject of FXR150's, I had this one guy on an FXR150 that I was riding behind on my way back from course... he kept looking back at my bike... I think the main reason was my exhaust....... was sitting on the bench at home![]()
