    Somebody stop me!

OK I'm not going to link links but there is a sexy black CBR400RR with ~35,000k going on trade me and I *may* have fallen in love. Can somebody please convince me that selling a kidney to buy this is a terrible idea because I sure as hell can't!

..At the very least I'm going to call up about a test ride.

If your kidneys are in good enough condition to sell ... go ahead....

Google is your friend ... no doubt a few bike mag's will have done a write-up ...etc.

Check the wreckers ... if plenty are in there, it sort of speaks for itself ...

Sounds like you are in a rush. Test ride is OK but think twice.

In my experience rushing or instant action wasn't always good.

But hey, it's my experience not yours. Do as free as you like!

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

Hmm youre right, but I have been considering something like this for a while. Trademe just has this ability to put me in an 'get it asap' mood.
Was like this about my current bike. Seemed to work out pretty well.

    I know you're a little bit weird, but an IL4 400cc? Wtf?

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Was looking at VFR 400's, and this popped up. Also, because I can.

I have no idea if you're planning to move up to this 400 from a 250, so speaking only from my own personal experience take from this what you will...

...when I got my full license (16 years ago!) I went from a RG250 to a ZXR400, enjoyed it for a while but then came to the sad realisation that, for me, the ZXR400 really wasn't a step up at all and I regretted buying it as an "emotional buy". I was doing a lot of 2-up riding at the time and it just didn't seem to have enough grunt. Should've gone from the 250 to either a 600 or 750, but couldn't afford to at the time. In hindsight I should've waited until I could afford the bigger machine, but was blinded by "I love it and need to have it now".
The ZXR400 got written off by a soccer-mum SUV driver who said, not surprisingly, "I didn't see you". With the insurance money (and after getting out of the neckbrace and off the crutches) I bought a GSXR1100. No problems with lack of grunt after that.

I knew a lot of guys riding 400's at that time, all having just moved up from 250's. A common complaint from all of them was that they wished they'd gone to a 600+.

Of course today's 600/650/750's are kickarse machines, considerably moreso than when I was looking to move up from a 250, so maybe the 400 will suit you.

I thought you said "there aren't any good looking fairing bikes"

    along with

"I don't want a fairing bike as they are much harder to do maintenance on"

Geniuses like this are the best people to buy bikes from imo
As long as they pay for the maintenance.

You make some very good points, in my mind this was more a step up from buying another 250 than a step down from going straight to a 600.
But with 60hp its not exactly slow :P
I'd rather be able to ride the balls off a 400 than spend all my time in first with a 600, but I haven't actually decided *just* yet.

I said there aren't many, and I didn't even say the second one. You really do live in fantasy land sometimes.

You did say you would much prefer a naked because of maintenance, you might not remember it tho.

. As for the other, it was the not many. And I was planning on showing you a cbr ironically to show that fairings can look awesome

CBR400 = An NC30 with all the awesome bits removed and replaced with meh.

If you're going to buy a bike or car and you like the first one you see, force yourself to go test ride/drive at least 2 others, pref 3 or more... That way at least you know whats out there and you've got something to compare it against.

If the gearing is anything like the NC30, you hit the power right at about 50km/hr so it's no better than a 600 in that respect. Also, make sure you test ride it properly and absolutely love it to pieces in the twisties, because even with 60hp you're going to get comfortable with it really quickly which means you'll get bored if your heart isn't in it.

Have you got your full now? And yeah, I said I wanted a naked, air cooled, injected Vtwin for my next bike when I was dicking around with the across but guess how many of those criteria my current bike fits... If you're buying bikes entirely with your head and not your heart, then you're not a biker, you're just some guy who is on 2 less wheels than most...
