Dobsy's NZ memorial
On Saturday 17 July we will be celebrating Dobsy's life in Onewhero. The time has yet to be confirmed but it will be around lunch time. Please come dressed as Dobsy would recognise you. Team shirts will be very welcome.

A lap of Pukekohe race track will follow at 4pm.

On Sunday 18 July there will be a 'pit-walk' style bike show featuring many of the bikes Dobsy rode.

A few more details to add.The Memorial service will start at 1pm at the Onewhero Hall.Following this there will be time for refreshments kindly provided by the Onewhero community.We will then go to Pukekohe Park Race way at 3.30pm to assemble for a Tribute lap of the race track.Bikes and cars are welcome and will be separated by a pace car.This will obviously be a slow lap or two.
Sundays show is at the Pukekohe A and P show grounds and will be sign posted. 10am-3pm.
Over 60 bikes ranging from classic to modern day racers including the Britten will be displayed.
Free entry but donations appreciated as ALL donations go directly to Dobsys wife and children.
Come and celebrate Dobsys success with racing and his passion for motocycles.

So how did it all go?

Saturday around 60 bikes turned up. We got to hear stories from folk who'd known Dobsy well over the years (neighbours and friends), see photos, look at all the trophies he'd won (a couple of his neighbours never realised how much silverware he'd won over the years).
After that, we headed out to Puke, where the bikes did a couple of laps, with a couple of his race bikes leading (at the point they were warming them up, it was hard to remember not to look around to wish Dobsy a great ride, as we'd often done in the past).
Bridget and the girls then went and did a lap on their bikes, just the three of them, none of them taking his line over the hill.
It was a lovely ceremony, good to see old friends, but would've been nicer under other circumstances (as always).
Didn't go Sunday, but hopefully someone else will comment on that.
When we stopped off for a quick feed at Bombay McD's, a woman came up and asked how it had gone - her and her husband were going to go on the Sunday. That was wierd.

So how did it all go?

It went very well indeed.

There must have been 350 - 400 people attend the service at Onewhero. There was a huge display of his achievements and a photo show of his life and times. Several individuals spoke of their memories and moments with Dobsy. As you can imagine a very emotional event.
A brief period of socialising then a convoy of bikes and cars were led to Pukekohe by a 'classic' fire engine, the convoy must have stretched for well over two K's. Once at Puke two slow laps were completed and the circuit was left to Bridget and the girls to do a lap on their own.

Sunday saw the bike show at the A&P show grounds. It kicked off at 10am. The building was full of all types of racing machines from full on drag bikes to the Britten and of course all of Dobsy's race bikes. There were several items for people to silently bid on from Magazine subscriptions to limited edition merchandise from the IOM. Everybody made an awesome effort to make a memorable day. Bridget was clearly impressed with the response and thanks everybody for their efforts.

The whole weekend was an excellent way to celebrate Dobsy's life and his passion for motorcycle racing. Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way.
