Partial eclipse - tonight (Sat 26 June)

New Zealanders will get the rare opportunity to observe a partial lunar eclipse when the shadow of the earth partially obscures the moon [....]

The eclipse will be visible to the naked eye in all parts of the country on Saturday, June 26, with the best viewing available between 10.30pm and 12.30am.

    This is tonight.

Same here in Dunedin. My daughter's trying to get photos, but the cloud is stuffing it up.

Edit - about 60% coverage now, but cloud thickening - sod it.

Farout! My moon is having an eclipse too. How bizarre

If I'm 2hrs behind you lot over the ditch, does that mean my eclipse will last longer then yours?

I think NZ had better viewing than Oz, but no matter - the Aussies can just claim the NZ eclipse as "Australasian"...

Yes, but we'll have two or three to make up for it.

    I know the feeling.

I phoned the Carter Observatory in Wellington, and asked if they could postpone it until a better night, but the bastards wouldn't do it...
