I stumbled across a great shop recently for fixing and getting cheap cell phones located in the Fox Outlet store on Akoranga Drive on the North Shore of Auckland. They are one of the first stores on the left as you enter the complex. They are a Vodafone agent as well I think
My partner dropped her two week old cell phone and the screen smashed. It wasn't going to be covered by warranty.
Anyway to cut a long story short we ran into these guys. They are a direct factory outlet for MobfilephoneRepair. We took the cell phone in and he said he could fix it. He said he thought the screen was broken (as did we - it looked obvious) and it would cost $120 to get it fixed. We said ok, when can you do it. He said can you wait 15 minutes. I was shocked.
I've had lots of phones looked at in the past, but never had a shop that could repair the on the spot. My experience is yuou have to wait about 3 weeks on average - depending on weather parts are in the country.
Anyway we came back in 15 mins, and he said alas something else was also damaged on the phone, and he didn't have the part in stock, but if we could wait 60 minutes he'd have the part brought in. Once again I was amazed. This was a Saturday. So we said ok.
Went back an hour later, and sure enough the man was true to his word and it was fixed. He gave us the old parts in a bag (including the screen) so we could tell he'd actually replaced them.
The bill only ended up coming to $100. So cheaper than they indicated, a very fast turnaround, no extra charges for bringing in parts on a Saturday - so they well out performed my expectations.
And they are open 7 days a week to 6pm every day!
And the other thing that blew me away. If you want a cell phone for your kid I'd come here. They had lots of second hand cell phones at really cheap prices (I checked one out and it was 1/4 of the price of the same new phone). I think they come with a 1 month warranty. I'm guessing they take the pieces of written off phones to assemble "new" working phones, hence the pricing being so cheap - but that is just my guess.
They also had new phones for sale. I looked at one Nokia. On the Vodafone web site it was $799. These guys were selling it for $450. This is a brand new phone. I asked them what gives. He said they don't come with a "Nokia" warranty. You get a 3 month warranty, and you have to bring it to them to get it fixed under warranty.
I've used the Nokia Service Centre before - I'd MUCH prefer to use these guys anyway.
My personal exerience with cell phones is that I tend to kill then rather than getting warranty defects. This being the case, I'd rather than have a much cheaper phone with a lesser warranty (that I think I probably wont be able to use) than the exact same phone mor a longe warranty.
Also these guys had zillions of after market parts. If only I had known this previsouly! Previsouly I needed a new battery for my old Nokia phone. I had to wait weeks and weeks for the Nokia Service Centre to bring one in for me. These guys had a pile of them sitting up on the wall - and much cheaper. What can I say.
Although I keep saying Nokia (because that is what I have) these guys have lots and lots of different brand phones. All the major brands except Apple. No iPhones at this place. Mostly just your more traditional standard cell phone.
Overall I'd give them an A+ for carry parts, there servicing, and cell phones for sale.
