Parking charges - holy sheeit

Dont ever, ever, ever drive a car into the CBD of Auckland Shitty and park up in one of those rip off parking buildings, unless you get there really early to take advantage of the "early bird" special. I wonder how much that is?

I had to venture down there today for a job interview, you know the sort of thing, corporate type position, turning up in bike gear to make a first impression perhaps not the most savvy thing to do, so I took the old bomb instead. Parked up at 11:30ish and tootled off for my brain exploding interview (it went really well, thanks for asking) and did not get back to the car until 3:20ish.

Paid up at the cashiers office on my way back into the building. About fainted when I saw the charge on my card, want to hazard aguess at the amount?

Is this the same the country over? WTF! How do they justify the charges? And how the hell do people afford to pay them?

Parking is obscenely expensive, I don't know how most Aucklanders do it.

Far out, you would not have been shocked at the cost then, try half of that, imagine if I have been there for the day. But hells teeth! What a crock. If I was working down there I would be asking for parking paid as part of my package. What a friggen joke.

I still want to know what people do pay for parking though.

I still want to know what people do pay for parking though.

I only used to take the car to the CBD when I could park at work for free, or get the early bird discount. No way would I pay the daily rate in a carpark. Now I have free bike parking at work instead, primo!

So, $20ish for 4 hours? You got off lightly. My advice: avoid Wilsons and Tournament, except for the Tournament one near Deus Ex, and that only for long term parking. The council ones aren't too bad.

About $12/day. Depending on where you go.

Motorcycles are free - and Mrs Mully has a paid CBD carpark for when the weather is shit.

Wow, I am very pleased to hear Mrs Mully gets a paid park, they are worth good money

Even $12 a day is dumb money, combine that with a shitty rush hour crawl to work (did that a couple of times recently, not for work mind, but attempting to get through the shitty to get to my Mommy in hospital) why would you take a car? Fuck even a bus would be better than that, and I HATE buses!

From my place to the city:
- Bus ride is $4 one-way. That is $8 return. Plus 15 minutes walk to the bus stop, 5-10 minutes to the office, 5-10 minutes walk back to the bus stop after work, 15 minutes walk home, and about oh....30-45 minutes in damp bus next to a sweaty person.
- Car parking is about $50 - $100 per week if you want to rent. Factor the running cost of the car too, which is about $40 - $50 per week in petrol alone.

Now....why did I insist on riding my tempramental ducati while half-asleep in the 4C cold heavy slippery rain in the midwinter morning traffic chaos, again?

Just dont go to a concert at the Vector Arena.... its $20 for parking and thats just for a concert that lasts like 2 - 3 hours long...

I used to catch the train from Pukekohe. About $10 a day, thank god for being a student, for others it was $9 a trip, unless they shelled out for the monthly pass, which was around $250. While I was working I found early bird parking on Nelson St, $8 a day. And when I rode I parked for free in my buildings basement. I was spending around $15 a day on petrol running the bike. Cheaper than the $25 a day petrol for my car though.

The thing for me each day was the 40 mins walking and 3 hours on the train for $10, or 2 hours riding for $15.
