Brake lines - a stupid question

as above, pretty ignorant questions probably... When buying brake lines what's the "rule of thumb"... Stainless Steel braided? is there any other kind? Also do I need to buy then specifically for my bike? or are the connecty bits needed from my bike and put on to new lines?

    Cheers

You're in Wellington? Go to Boyles in Adelaide Road* and they can order you Fren Tubo lines. They (brake lines) are pretty generic but there are a few catches - angle of the banjo fittings, lengths, etc. "stainless braided" refers to the outer covering - the actual line is teflon or something like that.

Do the existing lines fit to the master cylinder and calipers using banjo fittings? is there a splitter (one line into two) somwhere in the system? Its worth replacing the aluminum crush washers (2 per banjo bolt) while you're at it.

You could also order genuine Aprilia bits.

*Other shops can probably supply but I know that Boyles were able to get them for me, overnight, at a reasonable price.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

One of the people I look up to is Carrol Shelly and he has written books on that subject

but as a rule a respected manufacturer , there is a lot of Moonglow out there

The book should be online Email if you have any questions

I got a set for my GS500. Comes with everything you need and for bikes with two front calipers you can get standard, seperate lines from master cylinder to each caliper, or one line to a caliper then a crossover to the other caliper.

If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

When installed make sure they aren't rubbing on anything.... they can cut right through plastic parts and other rubber hoses.
