    Bandit 250 problem

    Hi all

New to riding and have a bandit 250 which i've so far most used for practicing around Orewa and various car parks, no long rides. However on Sunday I did a 2 hour ride around the area as it was such a glorious day; no problems at all.

Anyway, yesterday I rode to Albany to work seeing that it was a nice day and rode home.. no problems. Filled up on way home.

This morning however is another story. Going along SH1 towards silverdale the revs dropped off and opening the throttle did nothing. Coasted along for 2 seconds and the revs came back, and i was able to open throttle to speed up... It did it again and I thought I heard a backfire, so i pulled in.

Checked cables and fuel were OK and went off again. Was fine but I thought i'd take SH17 as it's a lot quieter than SH1.. had same problem about 10 times. Revs dropped to 0, no power no acceleration... after a few seconds, revs came back and I had power and acceleration.. This was on flat sections, and did it once on a hill.

This wasn't at particularly high revs, probably around the 5-7k mark and I was only doing 70kph..

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks guys

With the amount of rain we've had lately there's been a lot of incidents of water in fuel.

It's possible you've picked up some water from the gas station you filled up at.

I had the same problem with my monster a while back - it was a case of corroded/fouled connections (I'm assuming yours is an electrical problem if it just suddenly appears and suddenly disappears). The backfire was probably just unburned fuel burning up (spark plugs failing to fire on one stroke). Easy fix - just find all the electric connectors on the bike and give them a good scrape and clean.

Also - try keeping the revs up on the bandit - my partner's bandit 250 runs into starting/running problems if she revs low for too long, due to the plugs being slightly too cold for the engine. Needless to say, the bike only hits it's zone around the 10k rpm area anyway!

Vacuum in the tank? Try opening the tank next time it happens and see what kind of a result you get. If it starts running fine you might have a vacuum in the tank, not letting fuel flow to the carbs. Been happening to me alot lately, so thats the first thing that springs to mind..

Just and update for you. Rode home this afternoon and not a hint of this mornings problem. All was perfect the entire ride home!
