we have gas space heating at home. It is barely adequate as heating but expensive to run a gas bottle fill is $85 plus GST. Bottle rental is about $200/year charged six monthly. Service is good. But I still think its expensive to run. we roll thru a 45kg bottle in winter in about three weeks. You get a lot of juice in electrickery for that.

also our gas needs power to run so offers no secuirty of supply.

We are in the "getting a quote" phase.

A company called AAPL can lick my balls. Said they would be round the gaff "first thing" this morning, "just after 8". No show. No call. No apology when I rang to enquire where the fuck the guy was. So they can GF.

It is hard to get a manufacturer to give an expected lifespan as so much depends upon installation and usage, but some systems we have been upgrading are over ten years old. Much also depends on the quality of the system, too, as there are some major differences which are usually reflected in the cost. If you go for a cheap system, expect to get a cheap system. The most expensive parts are the panels, and some early panels were of very low quality.

A continuous-flow system has some advantages where you are making frequent draw-offs of hot water, but they don't work if the power goes off. My personal preference is for a cylinder unless you are continually drawing hot water, and usually that is in a commercial setting. I could save a couple hundred bucks or so on the Rinnai and probably the Rheem as well, and would recommend either Rinnai or Rheem if you did want a caliphont type.
