No point dragging the old thread up,I've only got a couple of weeks left in Henderson,so can finish my report.
When I came back to Henderson last year I saw all the old vineyards I knew in my youth surounded by developments,I figured their days were numbered and thought I'd compare the wines to my Foodtown staple.I sampled dry reds around the place and thought they were all pretty good,no reason to buy mass produced imports if you can get homemade stuff down the road.
But it didn't take me long to slip out of the dry red groove - I am rather partial to ports, and managed to slip a bottle in my bag along with the ''test'' red at most vineyards.I seem to be stuck on Mothers Cellar at the very end of Lincoln Rd by the motorway, and not just because of the nice lady at the counter.Neat old fashion shop,in the cellar and dark, have a taste and pick your poison. They do an All Black Port and a White Port, and the All Black is my pick.In the old days another wine we drank was Sateurne and I was pleased to see it again.I got a bottle, put it in the fridge and drank the whole bottle by myself watching the Melbourne GP on a hot day, man, what a choice drink - so now I buy Sauterne by the flagon!Another wine I rediscovered was Rose (dunno how to write it,but you say rose eh) a light coloured sweet red, another nice easy to drink wine.
I may be leaving Auckland, but I'll be dropping into Mothers Cellar for wine from time to time.....
