If it's anything like the old suzuki gsx400x Impulse ( around in the mid 80's ) I'd say it would rock. My old Impulse was damn quick in the day. They still make the gsx400x impulse, but not available in NZ

I think the 400cc bikes have been on the market for a long time - just that they don't tend to leave Japan. I'm pretty sure there is still a fairly descent market in Japan for non-sportsbike 400cc machines.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

I envisage the price of 400s picking up in NZ once the new rego costs come in to effect. They are damn cheap at the moment. I suppose that those bikes just over the 600cc cutoff (ie. 650s) will take a corresponding drop. I'm not far off making up a step up from my 250 and had thought I would be moving to a 650, but am definitely reconsidering that now in favour of a 400. These are purdy looking bikes too.

Ditto. Been looking at manufacturers websites for 600cc bikes and the only ones I can find are -

    Suzuki:
    GSX-R600

    Honda:
    CBR600RR (ABS option)
    HornetX CB600F9X
    Hornet CB600F

    Kawasaki:
    Ninja ZX-6R

    Yamaha:
    XJ6S
    XJ6N
    YZF-R6

All sportsbikes, and I'm currently riding a cruiser. Would be lovely to make the jump to a gruntier cruiser (1000cc plus) but not from a 250.

I agree. Why pay all that extra reg cost for only 50cc's more. The lack of new bikes under 600cc is a problem though.
