cowboyz first crack at R3 Acrix series

Well this should work out to be a short report.

Early start this morning as 86gsxr picked me up just before 7 and headed to the track. the roads were pretty wet after heavy rain all night but it looked promising.
did the sign in and unloaded the bikes and did the final checks on the bike. Everything looked good so smoked way too much and unpacked the boots, gloves and back protector I had brought the day before.

First up was clubmans practice/qualifying. Having been warned of a slippery track I went out first and had a bit of a wander at all the lime/crap on the track. TBH the track was really a mess and the bike felt really unstable. I wasnt happy at all with the Supercosa tyres and my new boots kept slipping off the footpegs. Gonna be an interesting day.
Completed the outlap and thought I will just keep everything wide and muppet round the track. Of course.. that theroy lasted about 10 seconds until I turned into turn 1... Foot off peg.. damn... turn 2. front gave a shake.. damn .. so slippery.. Made it round hairpin ok and then wound it up down mid striaght in a bit of frustration. Tipped into higgins and the bike felt really really unstable. Tried picking it up and having another crack at it but lost both tyres and went down in a heap in a pretty gentle low side. Really really annoyed as I was hoping to do better than that - well at least making the start grid would have been nice. Popped weld off the previously repaired cover anddumped its oil. Cheers to all who come over to offer to get the bike back running again but ive injured my shoulder and hand and I think I need to take some time to work out if I can actually ride a bike. So not confidence insipring having ridden 10km in 3 months and crashed twice.

    R4 is coming?

Shame you went down, there was certainly plenty of slippery stuff on the track today to help you do it.

Hope you make it to round 4 and the track/bike are better for you, its always fun to be out there giving it a go

I saw that! Did you puncture your radiator?

No condition for supercorsas mate you need full wets, a decent S/H set would set ya back $200 much cheaper then fairings

radiators good. The engine cover was broken from my road accident and I had it welded up. The weld broke off with the impact (it didnt really scrape.. just clean broke off) so dumped the oil (apologies for that on the exit of higgins). but it didnt spill till the outside of the track.. The long stretch of lime was someone else. I ummmm'd and arrrr'd about the supercorsas all of Friday and put it down to .. shell be right.. Got that wrong! Not thinking my clubmans attempt at racing fund it gonna support 2 sets of tyres so come monday Im gonna compromise on a new set of Pilot powers or Pilot power 2ct. Still undecided on what but thinking something with tread has got to be better!

Oh.. And that BMW is frikken insane! I think the drool puddle from the spectator stands is bigger than my oil spill.

Bunnings Forest Green ZX9R. On the upside.. the crash sliders, although destroyed saved the fairings so minor scraping.. Off to get another $4 spray can on monday too!

Go with the Power Race, they're actually quite good in the wet (ask Nicki) and sweet in the dry. If you ask around someone (choppa?) will have a slightly used set of wets you'll be able to buy cheap but you'll hafta learn to change tyres quick, coz they are real shit in the dry.
    Better luck next time

No the race, surprisingly good in the wet for a supersport tyre. I haven't tried the pures in the wet yet, so they may be another option. And I haven't tried power ones....

You need training wheels Lance, once you can complete at least one lap, then remove them and try again.
This theory has proven to be very successful indeed on some tracks.

If you are after a more road based tyre to gain versatility pehaps the Power Pure would be a good option, they seem great in the wet to me and given the times you're allowed to do at Manfeild they might be close to being on the money.

so many options! The next Q hanging over my decision is the Q of tyre warmers. I dont have any and dont intend on buying any just yet. So can I run wets without tyre warmers? Can I run power race's without tyre warmers?

    !
Yes,and yes, but both are better with 'em. Maybe the pures would be a better option...
Personally I think the investment of warmers is worthwhile, there's a lot less chance of doing damage on the first couple of laps.
I found this the hard way....my first ever track race meet I crashed on the very first corner of the first practice at what seemed like walking pace due to cold tyres....
