    I'd say Napier...its a lot better these days with the wineries doing so well etc - and some great riding roads. Not too far to Taupo or Manfield. Has an airport.

    In general I'd choose the East coast too (includes south island) because you get predominantly drier warmer weather on the east coast (as due to the topographic effect of the Southern alps and central ranges by the time weather get to the east it dumped it water on the hills and the land has warmed it up).

    The wasps aren't as bad as they used to be. In the mornings on my parents farm you'd look towards the sun and the air would be thick with the angry little feckers!
