IT's so fucking depressing, basic cleaning jobs have thousands of views after only a few hours, insane competition...

And this is exactly why you have to do everything you can to stack the odds in your favour. When it comes to job hunting, most people (the competition) are lazy. CV spamming ads on seek or trademe requires little more effort than a clicky-clicky. Any monkey can do that.
Don't be depressed about it. Get yourself a kick-ass CV, an introduction letter and pound the pavements with a smile on your face.
I know we are all different, and I guess it totally depends on the type of job, agency, company that you are working withBUT I once recieved a CV with a stapled 'goodie' and binned it without reading it.
Why?
Because I felt that it showed that the applicant couldn't be bothered ringing me or establishing contact / rapport, but that they felt that they could just bribe me with a 'goodie' to take notice, or to overlook any flaws in the CV - manipulative at best.
Guess I am just a hardarse...![]()

For a start - Seek is not that great. I told my bosses to stick the job in December last year ... and was unemployed until April this year ...
There seemed to be lots of jobs on Seek, but I had the same experience ... geting pissed around by employment agencies and the like ...
I got my current job through www.trademe.co.nz ... there appear to be more companies than agencies using Trademe ... which gives you a direct line ...
Good luck .. know the feeling from recent experience ..
"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
I almost agree, As far as I'm concerned the employment agencies are working for themselves ,not the employer or the jobseeker, which is what brings around your second point, advertising false jobs, building up a database of applicants, and then trying to shop em to employers.
Caught me out a few times and wasted huge amounts of time and effort, not only due to the time they take up but the time I have already spent approaching the very same companies personally.
Fucks me right off.
But then, I thought I had an excellent chance for a job a couple weeks back, Though they changed the job description in between my application and the interview, And then after my interview they re-advertised it in a completely different capacity and hired someone else.
Lmfao.
Hope, its a cunt of a thing.
God, I had one that I applied for directly, and then every agency in Auckland seemed to get it the following day - all in all, I think I applied for the same job 3 or 4 times.
Didn't get it, though. The company didn't even have the manners to send me a "thanks, but piss off" e-mail.
I recently had another interview, The interview went so well I was beaming, they were beaming, They walked me out to my wagon, another round of hand shakes.
three weeks later.....nothing.
Contacted, very curtly informed that they had no positions to suit me.
WTF?
Fuckers, what about all the dribble about how much fuckin value and capability they could see me bringing into the orginisation.
Owning my own business, I advoid agencys at all costs, they are a rip off, I normally advertise on treade me,............quite funny some times when you get the cv's eg...and i quote.." I pay atenton 2 d-tale!"............ya just goto laugh!
My 16 year old son applied for a job at McDs.
He did a 4 hour work trial (unpaid) they then had him fill out & sign an employment contract, kiwisaver application, sized him up for his uniform and told him they would be in touch.
2 days later they told him they actually have no vacancies & will keep his application on file and get back to him if a position opens up.
How fucken mean is that? If you have no vacancies, tell the poor kid, not get his hopes up.
Wankers!!
