Had to laugh at an angry motorcyclist tonight

Pulled up to the lights at SH2 and Fergusson Drive and had a huge chuckle.

The rider in front of me;, on his Suzuki M109(?) Boulevard, pulled on up to the left side of a little red Mazda, threw his hand up to his helmet gesturing to the driver to get off his phone, I think he was yelling (through his helmet), that's very very naughty then waving his hand...

The driver wound down his window and yelled abuse back. I had pulled in behind the car and I actually think he thought about taking said rider out with his car as they were taking off - he didn't.

I was laughing. Why? I followed said rider from the Melling lights. During this stretch the rider:

    • Failed to indicate lane changes,
    • cut very close to a few cars at speed when spitting after pulling back in
    • passed on the left hand side (heading into fergy drive), and was
    • exceeding the posted speed limit (considerably) most of the way

I wonder if, when, the rider got home he spanked himself???

I'm no saint but it was, what's the word hypocritical.

I've yet to be convinced that a driver on a phone in a car is any more dangerous than the woman I saw overtaking, turning around to the back seat of the car to yell at her kids, while also reaching down onto the floor in front of the passengers seat to get something out of her bag to then hand to said kids in back of car.

p.s. she was also going faster than 100kph and weaving all over the place.

These holier-than-thou cell-phone haters are totally nuts! My brother was using his cellphone in his car once when some dude pulled up beside him and started berating him for it.

The thing is - He was bloody parked up and not even on the road!!!

Some of them seem to believe that using a phone in your car - even when it is stationary - will cause other vehicles, animals, and small children, to fly out of no where and start ricocheting of your bumper.

I'm a little skeptical as to the veracity of that story. The number of cyclists I see using their phone while not using the handlebars is a little worrying, waiting till I get my loud can on then I'll see if I can get some phones dropped

Ahh, the good old days in Oamaru, parking the valiant/falcon/v6 cortina in the trees and abusing crankhandle as he went by....

And I'm sure it was a shitload more dangerous trying to instruct my 12 year old how to txt his mother back while I was driving than it would have been for me to just call and talk to her. But I had a cop tucked in behind me so I went with the 'safer' option.
