We had an awesome time at Mahaman's and Moms place. These guy's are AWESOME hosts. we had a great time. Awesome food and lots of fun.! Me and Mark reminised of our time in Rotorua....
We left Warkworth the next morning and headed to Kerikeri. After Whangarei I started riding like a dork and scared myself a bit. I came flying up to overtake a car at what may or may not be licence losing speeds. Suddenly the road had melted tar everywhere and huge ridges and chunks of road missing. My handle bars went everywhere and I really felt like I was gonna crash badly! Somehow I got through it by just looking ahead and relaxing my arms. I thiknk I fluked it BIG time! I had become way to overconfident for the roads and my riding ability. I felt Uncle B slap me and I slowed right down.
I didnt overtake anyone form that point onwards and got to Kerikeri safely.
The next day we headed out to Kaiiwi Lakes. Glenn was pillioning and I was tired so we didnt push it too hard. We headed up through Kaikohe then Opononi, Omapere then through Waipoua forest. WOW! This road is AMAZING! You Wellingtonian's would LOVE IT! BUt then the rain started and the roads got slippery. There is a big thick layer of moss all over the edge of the roads! Some great corners and its so beautiful so definately worth the trip!
The rain stopped for a wee while and the rest of the ride was fun. Man there are some great roads up here. Just a shame about the condition of them!
The rain pissed on us from 20mins to Kaiiwi lakes and then all the way back to Kerikeri. But I really enjoyed the ride. I was cruising steadily along (we had the radar detector) and I was even leaning into corner's in the wet! I used to be so scared of riding in the wet, not anymore.
By the time we got back to Kerikeri I decided that I had had enough of riding for a few day's so the ants decided to try and build a nest in the bikes, lol!

Yep, we're prob gonna be heading over to Ruakaka via Waipoua Forest sometime in the next few days. Im looking forward to it. Wanted to go today but im currently having issues with a ruptured Baker Cyst behind my knee. Its a bit to painful to ride to far atm
Im looking forward to the ride home as well. We are gonna go via Napier. I havent been there for years but I remeber it being a nice place....

Thank God! No disparagement of your riding ability intended!

Was up that way a month ago with DMNTD Tours and Adventure Ltd The head guide ran a quided tour of the run from Dargs to the Waipoua Forest. They wont believe me but the reason I came in late in between stints was to do what you are doing and cruise to take in the stunning views.

    part 2

On Wednesday I rode Kerikeri to Pukekohe where I stayed the night. The roads up North are in bad need of repair and I didnt really settle into the actual ride until Whagarei. The bike had been jumping out of 6th fear until this point and for some reason the tyres felt like they were in desperate need of air. (they didnt though) after leaving Whagarei I just cruised it until auckland where things got scray. I did a dodgy manouvere or two going over the Harbour bridge (which I wont admit to on here) I just pray that they dont have camera's...
Stayed in Pukekohe the night. Left for Napier the next day. Cruised nicely along in the pissing rain ! until Taupo where I stopped for lunch and a beer.
The Napier-Taupo road seemed really boring at first. Ya know the kind of Straights that you know that madboy would have loved where you can go 190kph+ along the straights... Then all of a sudden got to some twisties (yay!) Had a stoopid older man in a very late model VW trying to follow closely behind. Lost him and cruised along nicely at a decent pace. This road is fun once you get into it!
Got to Napier and it rained the whole time I was there. Whatever.
Left for Wellington today. It rained form Hastings to Dannevirke then it was good. Went from Dannevirke to MAsterton then over the Taka's. No probs except for the fact there was waaay to much traffic on the Takas. Tooke about 2.5 hours to get home form Napier so I was happy.

I really learnt alot about myself over the last 2 weeks.

    1. I can ride
    2. I can ride competently at a reasonable pace.
    3. I can ride in Rain
    4. I can actually ride!

I had ALOT of fun. Rode just over 3000 k's without incident. I learnt how to get alot of power out of my bike. I learnt that my bike can go over 200kph without too much effort. I had a great time!

I just wish that Uncle Bruce was here so that I could tell him all about it. He would have been so proud. Though I reckon he was with me all of the way its just not the same....

Hi, never got around to answering this earlier.

It was good to see you at the BBQ and I'm pleased you are feeling a lot more confident now with all those kms you've done recently. Uncle B will be proud I am sure.

You sure had a great ride going that far and the weather in Wellington has improved a bit so more rides will be in order here over the next few weeks.
    Cheers

    Merv
