That is true, but some of us just love a good sound...and the can on my bike stock was waaaay to quiet, such that I couldn't even heard the engine when downshifting for the hairpin at Puke.

Having said that, the '04 6r is decently louder stock than my bike, and has a cool sound to it in my opinion. Still, if more sound turns someone on, they'll likely not care if it doesn't make them much faster, if any.

Don't you guys have Motorcycle Exhaust Specialists down there too? They used to be near the town centre, but I believe they shifted to Rangiora. (??)

When I lived there, they made some very nice custom s/steel mufflers for my VF500; cost about the same as the cheapest aftermarket OEM replica ones I could get, and were much nicer.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    True.
After all motorcycling isn't just about logic - most of it has to do with more visceral considerations: how the bike feels, how it makes us feel. And that's all about our senses. F'rinstance the Satantune on my bike isn't the best one for performance (only adds maybe 2HP at most), but it shows off the SSS really well, and it looks very nice when it's clean'n'shiny. Sounds OK too, but there are others that sound better, like Micron, but they don't look as good.
    Do I care?
    No.
The bike came with the Satantune on, and I knew if I'd bought a bike without an aftermarket can, the accountant wouldn't have approved the expenditure (hard to justify on a safety basis).
If I'd had a choice of two bikes of similar mileage, condition and price, but one had worked suspension, then it would've been a different matter. Yes, not all my decisions are logical (like buying the VFR in the first place), but I'm not entirely stupid.

Or at least I hope I'm not.

...*thumbs thru phone book*...Why yes, we do. They're in Hamner Springs.
Gotta admit, I can see the merits of a great sounding pipe. On the Greta Valley run a few weeks back I was drooling over the noise SuzyQ's GSX750F makes...loverly. 30UTD's Busa makes a nice throaty sound too. It's just that what my old girl needs at the mo is decent springy bits.

Oh yeah - that's what I meant - Hamner or Hanmer. Oops...
Yeah, springy bits are more important.

Buggy, on ebay there are quite a few slip on systems for sale for '03 and '04.

I personally like the sound of "Two Brothers" or as MR said "Akrapovic"..

That sounds interesting... like 2 pipes on each side of your bike (in other words 1 pipe per cylinder?) ????

Woolf mufflers are very good when it comes to car stuff, I've not dealt with them for anything bike related
