No. What happened was the truck was being a sensible safe truck driver and keeping his heavy vehicle slow on the corners at the top of the thing, then getting back up to normal speed once he reached the straight bit.

Id say the boarders would have been doing 70km/h max.

Hmmm, think I might try some of that, must look for a decent long downhill gravel road!

Wonder where the grand-kids keep their skates and skateboards these days!

Acting Inspector Grant Miller of the Auckland motorways police said that although it was not illegal to ride such boards on an expressway, riders - who are defined as pedestrians - could still face charges such as failing to keep to the left of the road.

I'm not saying the cops are stupid or anything but he obviously kept to the left.....

The motorbike riders are mostly going "Ooooh, thats cool, looks like fun, I can totally imagine giving that a whirl"

the teeth suck brigade (Harold, whatever, the AA) are going "Thats dangerous and irresponsible, waste of taxpayers money, get me a cup of tea and is my beige cardy ready and I will wear my best grey zip up shoes today"

I suggest that your response to the longboard vid is very telling as regards your risk assumption characteristics.

    ACC opportunity lost!

This is a motorcycle forum and I note that while we all applaud the skill and daring of these guy's, there is one thing glaringly missing in any of the commentaries!

ACC and the high cost to any other road user but these guy's! (especially us)

The attention that these "longboaders etc" have been getting is astounding.

Why are we (bikers) not using it to our advantage to highlight the ACC disadvantage in costs for our "dangerous" activity, when these guy's pay absolutely nothing!

OK, rant over but do you get my point!

Yeah but neither do cyclists wearing lycra or pedestrians for that matter.

Watched the clip on Prime news last night and noted the cop said these idiots were using a busy stretch of highway when there was only ONE truck in the whole clip. Who's the idiot?

    From the Herald:

"They could also be charged with careless driving, which incurs a maximum fine of $3000 or, if a person is hurt or killed, up to $10,000 and/or a three-year jail term."

Man that sucks. I'd rather just be buried / cremated. I never knew they put dead bodies in jail.
