    Is it time the Maori leaders stood up and said stop beating babies, committing crime?

    perhaps for every serious crime commited by maori the gummint deducted $100000 from a treaty claim that may get their attention, pretty soon they will be owing money to the crown

    Apart from this bit, I think the answer is a resounding "Yes!"

    I think Kaumatua (sp?) need to be stepping up to provide guidance to young Maori. Given the fact that Maori are over represented in ANY negative social statistic you care to name, something new has to be tried. I'd even happily have tax dollars spent (within reason) to make this happen. Pinch of prevention, and all that.

    no doubt as a percentage of their total population they are ahead of most / all other denominations, but in purely numerical terms?

    i couldnt say for sure, but i doubt it
