Redundant? - get 6% back from IRD

I am going through the redundancy process at the moment. Someone directed me to this little link and change in tax law from 2006:

Basically - you can get 6% of your gross redundancy payment back upto $3,600 (ie. max $60,000 gross redundancy payment).

I don't know if this can be backdated. Someone told me the refund can take up to 6 weeks.

Maybe just what you need for a deposit on that new bike or some new gear to help out our NZ based motorcycle businesses.
