"Annie's Song" is a goodun to play on the guitar (one of the handful of songs I've bothered to learn, but probably wouldn't have, but for the guitar night class teacher covering it). It's a lovely song (despite apprantly taking him only 10 minutes to write!), but I always wondered how he could write such a beautiful song about someone then divorce her (or did she divorce him?)
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Yup, this guy is a total suck fest , no credibilty at all, unlike so much of that mass produced blow arse crap we would have to listen to now if we had suffered a total taste bypass
Kind of know what you mean though most c/w is shocking but there are some gems in the dross

Yup - he had a bad patch with booze and drugs etc but he achieved a hell of a lot BUT mention him and many people go spaz as has been demonstrated here... I just think its very odd - he was amazingly popular and globally known...

My question is why? personally I think he gets a raw deal...
It all comes down to peer pressure...that is sad but is the bottom of it....

And Tony, you have now fallen from my christmas card list

What is cool one day can be so uncool the next....I know i am showing my age here but lets look at Bucks Fizz....One day they are bigger than sliced bread, the next they fade into the musical Hades that is the sale bin at the local record shop...

John Denver was one of the great Troubadours of the 70s and 80s...I still love his music, along with a lot of other Country music

Not to forget the greats like Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells, and Meatloafs Bat outta Hell

My first album was Frankie Laine....and I have been mainly country ever since!!!

Used to love watching the Dolly Parton Show on tv and NZ's own "Thats Country"

    We have Tubular Bells here.
When I first met Anne, we talked about obscure music and I thought I had one CD that would take some beating...Mike Batt/Tarot Suite....turns out Anne had it on LP!
I think James Duece has it also?

Here is my favourite track from that album..

Thats a wee bit too 70s for my tastes Mark, but as far as folk music goes I do not think you can go far past Suzanne Vega and also Gillian Welch for good singer songwriters...

My favorite from Suzanne Vega, from her self titled debut album back in 1986 I think
    The Queen and the Soldier

And Gillian Welch, Look at Miss Ohio from her album Soul Journey....fantastic album that one
