    What cage should I buy?

I'm looking at buying a cage that can carry 2 dirt bikes, but I'm not sure if I should buy a van or a ute. I don't have any room on my property to store a trailer. I'm looking at spending $2000 the the very most, so what should I buy? I know I can't expect much for that price.

You can lock a van, alarm it and go for a coffee. You can sleep in a van, have holidays with free accommodation. You can have sex in a van. Get a van.

Be wary re rego cost. A diesel ute or commercial diesel van will cost $200 more a year to register compared to a diesel coach, that you remove the seats from.

agree with the extra security and versatility of a van, though if you want 2 bikes in it you have to look at bigger ones, my L300 barely fits one bike heightwise. Even if I took the folding seat and toolbox/sub out I don't think you would get two in there. Also you'll be bloody lucky to get a decent one for 2k!

For that money you may be limited to a cheap ute and just bolt a lockable container on the back for your tools and gear if you are likely to go to dodgy places.

I found with my ute, that I had no room for my gear in the cab, pain in the ass having to cram motocross boots, helmets, armour and stuff all over the person in the passenger seat! Especially when it is covered in mud.
Get a van = you can fit all your stuff in the back and sweep all the muck out afterwards.

Yesterday my mate and I managed to fit an XR250 and a DR250 into a 1994 L300 quite easily. Those bikes are quite a bit smaller than a lot of other dirt bikes though.

yeh, mine is a mx bike, so significantly taller, and possibly a bit wider bars, they are some of the cheaper vans though, and with some creative tie-down hooks and two people to load it you may be alright with proper dirt bikes too.

Good ol cheap Toyota Hiace will do the job well and they're damn near bulletproof. Petrol engine is the best. You can use it to cart your bikes (really useful size) and good for holidays too. Failing that a 4g63 engined (2 litre petrol) Mitzi L300 is a good choice too.
