What do you want to be now you are all grown up?

Hello fellow KBers. This is actually an informational about a career/EQ coaching and guidance programme for 16-23 year olds that I have just become certified to deliver AND that I think is a bloody good idea! It's also delivered in many of the regions so I thought I might highlight it to people.

I remember visits to my guidance counsellor at school and the only half useful outcome from that was a computer generated 'what colour is your parachute' assessment result telling me I should be a Nurse, Police officer or Soldier...now I know I can be militant but anyone who knows me knows I would be crap at all those things AND wouldn't enjoy them either!

THE on your mark programme is a one-on-one coaching and guidance programme aimed to build Self Awareness and Personal Mastery while supporting Career Planning and action.

It costs less than an irrelevant paper studied at university and equips young people with information they can use to target and research specific study/career options as well as including a 360 degree feedback about their strengths and skills relating to others and working within teams.

This is all rich information which can be used in interviews to communicate their unique offerings while demonstrating good self awareness - the building blocks upon which solid EQ/People skills can be developed.

The programme materials provided include a report summarising the key themes from our dicussions, the various assessment activities and feedback from those that know them well. Also there is a free book about how their own profile strengths can be leveraged for working successfully with others.

It is highly personalised and doesn't rule any career paths in or out. Coaches work with clients to draw out their specific interests and expand their thinking about what might be a possible career path to suit their personality, interests and strengths.

Research proves that when we are engaged in work that fits us we are generally happier, healthier and more productive.

It is also about enabling the young person with tools and resources so they can self manage the journey - some young people want to do the thinking and planning independant of their parenets and will find it easier to talk family once they feel they know a little about what they are on about first

Anyway - If you know anyone who might be interested for themselves or their young person direct them to the on your mark website for more information...

If you are in Wellington and you are interested in booking someone in just get back to me

(BTW - There is a 20% discount on all bookings made before the 31st August)

    Happy day to you all

What a shame I'm not down there.

I have the right disposition to tell the little shits to pull their pants up and get a job.

tee hee hee - they are always on the look out for new people to deliver the programme

I do believe I am applying MY own style to what I do...perhaps there is a niche market up there in need of your 'style of approach'

It's not really restricted to that group...more that the main tool of the 'on your mark' programme is a 360 assessment that includes situations more relevant to a younger person.

Where I had a new graduate who had perhaps been in the working environment for about a year but was only 20 I would apply the adult version of the tool and it becomes a different exercise.

The adult version - is the original Belbin Team Roles Theory assessment tool and is Adult centered - referring to adult and work type situations and interactions. I do use that as part of a Team Effectiveness day and have used it with individuals for role suitability, career development, performance and general coaching etc.

So not restricted - just THIS programme has been developed from the adult assessment tool using the same theory but making it relevant and meaningful for younger clients who perhaps haven't got much experience or even clue about what to do, where to go and even WHO they are and their own strengths.

You are very welcome! In fact...miserable grumpy sarcastic arses are my speciality - I honed my skills and experience in this tool within a large government policy shop
