Suzuki SJ50qt electrics. Help please! (Ignition barrel)

    Hi.

Ok I know they're gay and I hope I'm never seen on it by anyone I know, but I have just bought a 2006 Suzuki SJ50qt (scooter) off trade me at a bargain price. The only thing apparently wrong with it is it has no ignition barrel. I really don't know much about mechanics or electrics (anything in this case) but I took off the front panel before to have a geeze and I just saw a whole lot of wires - Which means NOTHING to me at the moment!

I did notice however that there are two connector box things not connected to anything, and there's no ignition barrel (bit where key goes) but there IS a black box thing. I have taken some photos to maybe make it a bit clearer.

Can someone help me on what needs to be done? I need to get it working ASAP as it's my only form or transport. I got quotes for new ignition barrels at Wellington motorcycles ($263) but I'm not to sure what I need - and the internet has NOTHING.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks man. It's a bit hard to read though can you post the colored one? So what do I need to get here? The ignition switch box connector things look right, is it just the ignition barrel I need or more?

    Cheers justin

    i'll finish the diagram tonight,
but do you want me to come around and take a look,
if you don't mind not having the original steering look we might get away with a cheap ignition switch from supercheep, which should only be about 30 or 40 bucks,
and a couple of new plugs,
    im free all tomorrow (wed)

    send me a pm

Would anyone be able to tell me what the functions on the ignition switch are? can't really read the diagram.

Left click the pic in post #2. again left click the image that then appears. The left click it again. It will be easy to read then. (all up that's three left clicks)

Are there any common reasons why I would see both wires to the magneto being grounded? When I test them against ground (unplugged from loom).

The yellow loom wire it connects to is also grounding...

Is this supposed to be like that? If not, how does one approach this to fix a "no charging" fault?

Yep a few reasons 1/ wires rubbed through insulation and touching frame or engine 2/ stator is burnt out/cooked earthing to engine 3/test seeing the headlight bulb earth through headlight bulb connections

the reason you see what looks like a earth on the yellow wire into the loom is that the headlight is connected to it. Either switch off the headlight if you can (as it's probably a Japanese or nz speck bike you probably don't have this option) or disconnect the headlight and retest grounding should disappear. if the grounding doesn't disappear start testing for a fault in the yellow wire.

stator should test no earth connections when completely disconnected that's your first test if there is a earth new stator time. second test disconnected is 30-40 volts or more on red wire 12-15 on more on yellow wire. if these are less than this new stator time.

Gave it a go, and tried every combination I could find, eventually the problem came out as "left brake switch" it was drawing current from the light circuit but the light was not on ... What an odd issue.

    Thanks for the assistance.
