Broken valve spring.
My 1924 Conn C Melody has a broken spring on the low C valve,it's 81 years old, things wear out I guess. The last guy who worked on it (nobody else would) has disapeared....maybe I should see if the guy who repadded it for me 15 yrs ago will touch it,but he wasn't happy to work on it last time. It's a ''high'' tone and doesn't play the same sounds as a modern instrument,so it's considered worthless by real musicians - but I really like it and it has a beautiful tone,I can adjust the tuneable neck to make it half a tone high, then my wife can play along with me because she can transpose in her head.I just use it for what it was made for - playing the melody line in piano music.I only sing in the car, this allows me to sing my music...the best instument in the world.I don't play it much now...with all the missing and damaged teeth my embouchure has more leaks than an 81 yr old hooker, and it makes more noise than a Fat Boy with open pipes. The alto is buzzy and aggressive like a 2 stroke.....if I would stop damaging my hands the bass would be better to get back into music with....
