    Phew what a day!!

I started my day with my smart phone being too dam smart and setting itself for daylight saving!!!! (use it as an alarm clock you see)
So there I am hitching the trailer on the camper van at some un-holy hour of the morning when I should have been sound asleep.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day weather wise (I knew it was a good idea to start the season later in the year) clear sky’s little or no wind and a warming track.

Full groups greeted us and thanks for everyone that turned up nice and early, it makes the whole process of sign on, gear check and scrutineering so much easier.

We were presented with our level one ride day status certificate from Star insurance for attaining there highest level for a track day provider. This allows us to give a certificate of completion of one of our days (Group 1,2 & 3 only) of attendance that will offer the holder a discount on their premium and allow Star Insurance to insure their bike when out on the circuit with us.

From our perspective the day ran like clockwork, everyone I saw and spoke to seemed to be having an awesome day. It’s so satisfying to see the groups gathering under their ezups at the end of a session for feed back and hungry for more information. I am constantly amazed at the improvements in rider’s confidence and skill levels in what adds up to just a few hours on the track. Kylie in Groups 2 achieved the most improved rider award provided by Cycletreads, It should take pride of place Kylie well done.

The standard of preparation/maintenance of the bikes was again of a high standard, again this saves time at scrutineering and your time for having to go away and make adjustments, it is always worth double checking tyres and brake pads and consider how much quicker these will wear out on the circuit. Brendon achieved the best presented bike award from Cycletreads for an immaculately presented Aprillia 1000 absolutely stunning.

What was so good to see also was the amount of spectators there! They were sat in the grandstand, walking through the pits and taking up vantage points around the circuit cameras in hand. We had two ‘ride outs’ come and see what ART is all about. Mom (Anne) & Maha (Mark) brought out the MAG crew fresh from their inaugural meeting in Auckland, it was good to see them and put some faces to KB names. We even got one out on the circuit to do a few laps once all the formalities had been completed. The spectator car park had more bikes parked in it than I’ve seen in a very long time. You were all very welcome and a pleasure to see there.

The ART team had a great day too; the reward we get is in the knowledge of a good time had by all. If you haven’t already you should soon receive feedback forms to complete, go to town and tell us what your thoughts are the good the bad and the ugly is what we want to know. Congratulations to Alistair for winning the most votes for the best instructor of the day. I managed to take the R1 out for a couple of rides and put in a few quick laps and today I realise how unfit I have become over the winter and how much effort it takes to hustle a 1000cc’s around (note to self ‘hit the gym’ and soon!). Thanks must go to Sloan ‘Choppa’ Frost for coming out and being our ‘star instructor’ he could be seen out in all of the groups leading and following, then, once back in the pits feeding back on what he saw. I even caught him drawing lines in the dirt explaining the intricacies of lines and apexes.

December the 12 is the next one, the entry form is already out so don’t miss out see the entry form on our web site http://www.amcc.org.nz/home there is also a few pictures of the day on there as well as a new monthly cartoon to have a learned giggle at.

Thanks to all the marshals, Angela and her team spent what must have been a hot day at there posts looking after us all. To all of the ART team for a job well done and to everybody that attended for your enthusiasm and participation, it really was a great day out.

Bummer - looking at the pictures I've realised what I thought I was doing and what I was actually doing are not the same thing. It's very usefull being able to see yourself through someone else's eyes.

Very valuable having the photographer there for later reflection.

ps. I think I might get the camera guy on a bike to follow me for one lap next time. I've only just come to appreciate the extra aspect this might ad.

next time give me a yell and i will stick behind for a few laps.

You would be amazed at the bad riding styles and bike positioning of some riders (myself included).

Ah, there are some amongst us for whom hanging off and knee down are the whole things in themselves. Not for any purpose, mind you...

Yep good to see some on board shots after watching you guys.
Pity about the music, good tunes but personally I like to hear what the bike is doing, no better music than a screaming engine!!

All the same good vid Boris!!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

Can you really only submit an application to attend via snail mail or fax. I've just been on the amcc site and, to be honest am viewing on a phone so may have missed it but didn't see anything about a modern comms medium for submitting.

Anyone know, otherwise I'll have to find a fax machine lol
