How much for a thou for a year?

OK, so although I'm relatively new to this racing malarky, i'm not getting any younger.

Basically, a rough idea of how much to run a thou for a year? Aiming for halfway up the club grids and a fang at one of the nats rounds.

For you mate, pretty safe to bet on 5x the purchase price for repairs ...

If you buy my second hand tyres that range from $150-$200 then id say 1 set a month would last you just fine and apart from that it would be the same cost as what your riding now.

A national round you will need 2 or 3 sets of s/h tyres and then just entry fee.

If I know people want the tyres I take them off before I wreck them, if I keep them they will last me another several track days so unless your looking for 10ths of a second S/H are fine

Yep, doesn't have to cost a fortune mate. Like you I'm a blardy late starter and the wrong side of 40.

Last year I did exactly what you are talking about, finished about a third of the way down the club field and didn't use a single new tyre. I missed a couple of rounds with work but spent about $600 on tyres for the whole club season which included doing the extra LG superbike race each round and a few test days. Good value I reckon.

Then I cocked it all up by buying a new bike with brand new unsorted suspension and struggled big time. I still qualified for a Nat's event on second hand tyres (thanks Choppa) although the results were embarrassing thanks to suspension and other niggles....and generally not having a blardy clue, lol. If I'd stuck with my trusty ol' well sorted bike I'd have been laughing all the way to the bank and had a lot more fun, but what the hell ya learn more outside your comfort zone than in it. Still well worth doing though and has given me a much better idea of what I have to do next year.

A lot of folks blow crazy money on new tyres when realistically if you are several seconds off the pace (which most of us are) then pre-loved rubber is not the handicap it's made out to be. The rest of it is much the same as any other class with just slightly more consumables used.
