Egad, what was I thinking? Sorry - I meant EAST. We wanna go west to Wairoa.

Have GPS so never get lost ... as long as the directions are OK.

The problem is that one of the roads on the route is blocked off in reality but not on maps.

All those roads should lead to Wairoa....eventually!?

I see the weatherman is changing the forecast as often I have to change the instructions.....pack ya wets to ensure a dry day!

Hah, ask my mates, I've got them into more weird and strange places WITH the GPS... its great, effectively you can never get lost, as long as you have a bit of gas in the tank.

Re maps, I'll be looking at the intersection, and probably the other end. I sense an update for NZOGPS is in order

So true. I have learned that the GPS is not correct all the time, especially choosing the best route. While a GPS user can not be totally 'lost' they can be someplace they don't want to be.

I always try to look at a map as well as using common sense when using a GPS. The best time with a GPS is when I have the basic route directions (as with this C1KC), then study a map, and have a feel for the area from past experience - then the route can be entered into the GPS. But yeah, if I get lazy and rely too much on the GPS, it can really be weird at times.

hey all, wont be able to make it this weekend... still haven't been able to remove the snapped stud from my header.

managed to get the exhaust off though so i now have more room to drill it out.

hope you all have a great and safe ride.

    Gearing up for the weather

The weather could be better, a bit cool and unpredictable showers through until Ashhurst in mid afternoon. Showers predicted in HB may not eventuate or we could be lucky and miss them as is often the case in the Bay. Temperature will be comfortably cool so the thermals will be in the cordora gear - can always be taken out later.

I thought about wearing leather but may not be warm enough as the day wears on, I tire and the return ride from Wairoa is into a cool southerly wind. I will have the wets on until my first fuel stop in Waipawa - just a nice 300kms. Waipawa will be a mini rest with coffee and something to eat. Then it is a clean run to Wairoa with few restricted speed areas to lower the average speed.

The helmet cam will be running on this ride and I hope to get some good clips. On the interesting bits of road feel free to pass me (safely and no carving up) and you could feature in a video. I plan to ride at a good pace, not too fast around blind corners - please don't follow too close behind, I like to be able to kill speed if uncertain what is in front without the concern another bike is going to run up my rear. Likewise if the radar detector beeps my action is to immediately correct speed even if I am not actually going that fast - keeping safe .
My planned moving average speed is 85km/hr and with 60 minutes stopped - the GPS trip computer will keep me informed.

See you all in the morning.
    Here for the ride.

Just back about 20mins ago. Had a great day out, especially once the rain went away. The Wellington lot shouldn't be far from finishing I'd say.
