I was told that its not wise to buy an old race bike so I set out to set up my own. Man, what a way to spend money FAST. If only I didn't buy a road bike to convert it into a race bike, I could have bought one of these and been out on the track quick as.

That '93 NSR 250 sounds like a Wicked deal. Mt Eden MCs had mint mid ninties NSR 250s going for almost 10Gs and still selling like hot cakes. That would be a nice road/track bike to have...

Buying used race bikes has its pros and cons.  The biggest con is you don't know how many race K's the engine has clocked up and how much more it has left before it goes bang.

But the pros are many, heaps of spares, rims and wet tyres if you are lucky.  Race ready too just requiring a new number to be stuck on.  The engine should already be sorted and milked for every hp possible without throwing more cash at it.  And you should have a fair idea of what to expect out of it by the previous owners laptimes.  You can also ask them their gear/jet/suspension settings for the various tracks too which will save you lots of hair pulling and wasted laps.

Depending on what class your going in (clubmans/C grade) I'd go the 400cc 4 stoke, the 250cc 2 stoke just not enough power. Either way just do it............

.........................ha ha i was at the last f3 meet at pukekohe there was a 250 in second place.as standard some of the 4 strokes will pull a bit more top end than say a standard nsr but there aint to much difference get some proper cans tyga or jha make some good ones derestrict the ignition and a 2 stroke should be quite competetive.

I was racing a '92 RGV250 in 2001 which was standard, which was great but I was doing better times on my partners '89 ZXR400 which was standard also. Her ZXR was street legel lights, indicators etc, I was allowed to take it to track days but not strip it down for race meeting.

    FUNNY LOOKING JETSKI????????
I'm one of the worlds best riders. I can wheelie, I can stoppie, I can stunt, hell I can get my shoulder down. I could keep up with Rossie if I wanted to race.

Then I go from bed to bike and somehow it all turns to crap.
