    Duc valve guides?

    Anyone know where to get em other than the dealer who wants to ream $75 a piece for them?

    For a 900sie monster, Same heads as the 900ss i believe.

    I know I can get them overseas but i'd rather support local (apart from the overpriced dealer network) even alternative sources would be considered.

    Decided to whip the heads off after dealing with smoking/oil consumption issues and found the exhaust valve guides shot on both. Getting the holes checked after being able to pull one out with my hands after removing the lower rocker arm. Fun and fricken games.

    Unless someone has some good heads they done need anymore.

    While I'm on the subject why is there a fear of working on desmodromics? The head configuration (admitedly mines a 2v) is rather simple to work on and is very straitforward. Could it be I am missing something?

    If the head bores are that sloppy you're going to have to buy/have made oversize guides anyway. Following on the seats will require recutting and if the guide(s) have been loose the valves will certainly require refacing.
    In ChCh there are 2 or 3 places who could handle the whole job - I'd assume someone will point you at an Auckland company.
    At least if you get your own heads done you will be certain of their condition - buying s/hand heads can be a lottery.
    Setting up the Desmos is not inherently difficult - but the specialists have everything reqiuired at hand which makes it much easier.

    You could try AMPS, their wholesale side Performance Cycle Wholesale is the Kibblewhite Precision Machining importer. Their stuff is very good quality, they may have to order in for you though as I'm not sure if they stock the Ducati ones. Average price is around $30 each.
    Kibblewhite do make oversize guides too.

    I reckon I agree. Half the cost is getting everything off to gain access. Diving into the desmdromics is great fun and rewarding

    Made a few for my Bevel drive 900 SS 1980 many years ago.

    Thanks for the advice thus far. I've got the heads in at GK engine reconditioners he's done a few bikes and seems to know what he's doing. He seems to think that there are alternative options on the guides. If he can find something hes going to ream the holes fit the guides, recut the seats, lap the valves in and all for a IMO reasonable price of $160ish.

    I still need rings and gaskets, but it's looking a bit cheaper than I'd first anticipated.
