The one at the top of Waikumete Hill has been missing for a week now. Someone ran it down. It was the most productive speed camera in the country so they must really be missing it....

You should paint a swastika on the side of the van, and put dirty engine oil on the inside of the door handles.

I'm always tempted to fang past one of those - given that they face head-on traffic and the bike don't have a front rego plate...

Be just my luck for the bastard inside to note the plate after I went past...

How about someone try it for me an' let me know how ya got on..?

Slightly off topic but I went past a sneaky speed camera van heading north on the motorway between the takanini and manukau exits. Saw it first with plenty of time and only when I was right in front of it did the radar detector pick it up. These new K band cameras must really emit low power and frequency signals. Also after the K band warning chirps I got a SWS warning of "Caution" which I thought was interesting

The ones up the pole will just take a pic of the car next to you or after you even if that car is doing the speed limit. The metal on a bike causes only a very slight back emf, so the camera control knows something has broken it's electromagnetic field quickly but of course snaps the wrong target and by then you'll be long gone. And should I even be explaining this on here? Now everyones gonna argue that it was the bloody bike that went racing past the pole camera that was speeding and the camera snapped your vehicle by accident.

    Nice one bro....

THe OP reminds me of the line "I know a cop who lives (somewhere far away) named John... do you know him?"

I would love to know anyone who knows all of the other 10,000 odd staff in their organisation.

I agree - Picked up a radar detector after seeing the van above on Central Park Drive a few weeks ago. Didn't notice it was a camera van til I could spit at it. Went past van riding the KLR - speedo indicating 65km. Was lucky operator was busy in the back of the van adusting the camera !

Aproching the van yesterday (in the car) - radar detector operating - no warning - then an indication just as passing the kill zone ! .....K Band

In the West Auckland area - have seen the van above - also a green van about the place (Try to get its number plate next time) - also a white van operating on the North Western motorway towards the city (hiding in the vegetation off to the side just before Western Springs).

Have been pinged by the green van (Glendale Road) bout 2 months ago - 62km - didnt see it - hit the go fast pedal in the V8 at the wrong time !

The white vans on the motorway are generally easy to spot. Find I don't venture over 110km to often anyway. My problem is in the 50km zone - drifting up to 65 - 70 at times.

I find the radar detector helps to keep me in check - the odd false alert reminding to check the speedo.

Would be interested to hear if others have seen any other speed camera vans operating in the West Auckland area.

Mental note: Silver Van parked on side of road - Plate Number ETL813 = SLOW DOWN !!!

Over here in Melbourne, they'll put the camera in the front passenger seat facing forward.

Cant see it through the back window as you approach and it will take your photo after you go past. Works on bikes a treat. Fuckers. Dont need to be station wagons or vans either.

Now, all cars on the side of the road are suss.

On Monday the detector was going apeshit at the cameravan on Central Park Dr. Hate to think how many poor suckers get taxed there.

They're putting heaps out west cause the one at the top of Waikumete Hill is still out of action. They've got to earn the revenue somehow
